I was unfortunate enough to need an x-ray recently at my local hospital. I had hurt my ankle and my doctor suspected that it might well be broken and so told me to go for an x-ray. I was expected to be met with some typical radiology reading rooms with x-ray film being looked at on lighted screens. I have not been to hospital for a very long time, fortunately but I somehow did not expect things to be so much more modern.
The cleanliness was the first thing I noticed, everything looking really clean and tidy and there was hand wash gel everywhere so that people could make sure that they did not bring germs in and out of the hospital. The staff too seemed to be being extra aware of spreading infections as they were wearing gloves and changing them frequently. However, once I got called into the room for my x-ray, on time as well, I noticed how very up to date the orthopedic pacs equipment was. I was really interested in how it all worked and while they were taking the x-rays they even took some time to explain to me all about it which was really interesting. It was amazing that they were running on time with appointments and were kind enough to explain about the equipment and things. It was obviously quite complex but they just explained to me what it was doing as they were using it and how much better this PACS imaging system was than the old system that I remembered. I was so impressed by it all that when I got home I was looking it up on the Internet to find out all about it. It is really interesting and I would encourage everyone to take a look and find out more because you will learn a lot and if you are ever in the unfortunate position of needing to use the equipment then you will know something about it and it might make the whole experience a more pleasant one for you.
I think that knowing about what is going to happen to you makes things less stressful and also allows you to think of any questions you have about the procedure that you can ask while you are having it done. I would recommend doing it before any medical procedure that you have… as it will really help you, at least it does me anyway.
